Housing

A shortage of housing is at the centre of Australia's affordable housing and homelessness crisis. HomeGround is committed to advocating for greater government, community and private sector investment to create more affordable housing as part of our work to end homelessness.

HomeGround has also identified the lack of housing that is closely integrated with long-term support services as a major barrier preventing many people experiencing homelessness from being permanently housed. This is a particular barrier for those with high or complex needs. This led to the adaptation of the  successful US Common Ground supportive housing model for and its introduction into Australia.

As the Australian leader in supportive housing, HomeGround is actively pursuing supportive housing development projects in Melbourne and providing support to other organisations doing the same in other states. Elizabeth Street Common Ground has already entered the construction phase and others will follow in the coming years. Currently, Australia's only operating supportive housing is in Adelaide.
