Our History
HomeGround Services was formed in December 2002 from the merger of Argyle Housing Service and Outreach Victoria.
The merger joined two organisations with a similar ethos around high quality service provision, a rights based approach, and a strong commitment to social change.
Outreach Victoria was established in 1990 as George Street Outreach Services in Melbourne’s inner north. The organisation was created by a partnership between key agencies concerned about a gap in the existing service system people with complex needs who were chronically homeless.
Argyle Housing Service was established in 1997 to assist homeless people in Melbourne’s inner south and from 2002 in the City of Yarra.
The two organisations were based on different sides of the Yarra River and provided complementary services;
· intensive housing-focused outreach in the inner north, and
· crisis and transitional housing assistance in the inner south.
The vision for the creation of HomeGround was to create an organisation with integrated high quality housing-focused services offering crisis and transitional assistance and outreach support across the entire inner urban region.
Today, HomeGround has evolved far beyond this vision and works in the areas of homelessness, housing, community development, and social justice advocacy.
HomeGround is independent, not-for-profit and secular.
