History
HomeGround's history working with the most disadvantaged and isolated members of our community goes back more than 20 years.
George Street, Bedford Street and Outreach Victoria
George Street Outreach Services was established in 1990 based in Melbourne's inner-north. It would later become Bedford Street Outreach Service and then Outreach Victoria.
These organisations were created through partnerships between key agencies who had identified gaps in the homelessness and housing system for people with complex needs and long histories of homelessness.
Argyle Street Housing Service
Argyle Street Housing Service was established in 1997 to assist homeless people in Melbourne’s inner-south and, from 2002, in the City of Yarra.
HomeGround Services
HomeGround Services was formed in December 2002 from the merger of Argyle Housing Service and Outreach Victoria.
The merger joined two organisations with common values centred around high quality services, a rights based approach and a strong commitment to social change.
The initial vision for HomeGround
The vision for HomeGround was to create an organisation with integrated high quality housing-focused services offering crisis and transitional assistance and outreach support across the entire inner urban region.
Today, HomeGround has evolved further and works to prevent homelessness, end homelessness, create access to housing, advocate for change and develop evidence about effective responses to homelessness.
